Clean plastic lids are being collected at Granite City schools as part of a summer recycling program for students.
The program is being led by Kim Antonovich-Merz, a fourth-grade teacher at Mitchell 3-4 Education Center. This is her 18th year of recycling at Mitchell.
The recycled lids will be used to help purchase benches in honor of two former teachers: Dawn Bruder of Frohardt (2019) and Jamie Kindle of Wilson (2022).
Acceptable caps include: - Medicine pill bottle - Drink Bottle - Milk jug, creamer - Ketchup - Detergent - Mustard - Hair spray - Spray paint - Toothpaste - Ointment tube - Deodorant - Baby food - Apple sauce pouch - Shampoo/conditioner
Acceptable lids include: - Cottage cheese - Cool whip container - Yogurt - Pringle can - Mayonnaise jar - Coffee can - Peanut butter - Butter - Ice cream bucket - Cream cheese container - Spice
Not Acceptable lids include: - Metal - Trash - Drink bottles - All food containers - Prescription - Cardboard liners - Plastic Ziplock type bags - Soap pumps - Trigger sprayers - Lotion pumps - All fast food drinks - Grocery bags - Plastic that is not a cap or lid - Caps or lids 1, 3, 6 or 7 recycle number - Human or animal medical supplies - K-cups and straws - Syringe caps - Plastic toys
